A Staged Reading of Dog Logic – a Monologue for Young Actors

This is one monologue pulled from Voices A Monologue Collection for Young Actors which is available on Amazon or as a pdf download here on my website.

Dog Logic

Right now… right now, as we sit here,
Gerald is standing in the kitchen.
Not moving. Just standing.
Because he heard something.
Nobody else heard it. But Gerald did.

And he has made the decision, the full commitment, that the sound came from the refrigerator.
So he’s going to bark at it.
He’s going to bark at the refrigerator
until the refrigerator understands
that Gerald knows.

And then, once the refrigerator backs down… Gerald will spin in a circle three times,
for reasons known only to Gerald,
lie down on the one specific floor tile that is always cold, sigh the sigh of a creature who has seen things, and fall immediately, completely, peacefully asleep.

(beat)

I love Gerald.
Gerald has the best life.
